making of phulkumar
Making of Phulkumar was primarily taken as an learning project by a group of youngsters in Bangladesh, most of who hadn't have any prior experience of film making but full of passion, dream and dedication. They initially intented to learn film making through the practical process. And finally they achieved it though there was extreme hassles and lack of proper resources and access. Phulkumar was shot by very crappy equipments like an almost broken Arriflex(BL) camera as well as other equipment. Beside this there was extreme lack of practical experience and professionalism and utmost the lack of money. Most of the cast and crews did their job just for a token remuneration and at last the film is done by overcoming all the obstacles and hassles that is very incommodiously common fate for the independent filmmakers in Bangladesh where hardly few good films are being made nowadays besides the mainstream crappy film industry.
The film was shot in kodak vision 200T stock in 2:1 shooting ratio. Entire shooting was in the location of Panamnagar, the ruined and isolated city of Sonargaon. Film was fully edited on Steinbeck.
Phulkumar was primarily Ashique's 4th year graduation film for New York School of Visual Arts that he was supposed to make in USA in attachment and collaboration with school. However, as he was always fascinated to make his first film in Bangladesh he gets permission from school to make his student graduation/thesis film in Bangladesh. Finally he made it, and, Phulkumar, an extremely low-budget "student-independent film", become no more a student or amateur film rather being considered as one of the most original Bengali short film among the youngsters.
